Trip to Denali
Wednesday, June 12, 2013
So the newest adventure for the Whitener Clan was a whirlwind trip to Denali by train, and I do mean whirlwind...Depart Eielson 6:30am. Leave Fairbanks 8:00am. Arrive Denali 12:15pm. Hang out & Explore. Depart Denali 4:00pm. Return to Fairbanks 7:45pm. And drive back to base. Whew....It may have been a fast trip, but it sure was a gorgeous one! The sun was out, the weather was warm, and the animals were roaming! We actually saw five moose and a bald eagle...if you know how our track record works with animals in Alaska, then you will understand how amazing this was for us! We just happened to be on the same train with some good friends from Eielson, not planned at all, so the adventure was twice the fun! We upgraded to Gold Star seating for the ride down to Denali and rode Economy seating back home. The train wasn't very full so we were able to spread out and enjoy our trip. Sophia roamed up and down the aisles, Jensen enjoyed a quiet spot on the floor to lay and kick, and we were able to stand outside the train and watch the amazing scenery go by us. It was definitely an amazing experience and a check in the bucket list. So many great opportunities in Alaska...just not enough time (or money!)...ha! Here's a few pics from our adventure! Enjoy! :)
